Interview with Horror Vacui

Horror logoInterview with Horror Vacui at the Butler’s Arms Reading, Friday 26/9/15 early afternoon.

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): This is raven and the Gothicfox doing an interview for gothic-rock.com, and we are here with Horror Vacui (lots of cheering)

The first question for you guys, how did your invite come about to play at Sacrasanct 2015?

Horror Vacui (Koppa)
Dave wrote to us, err, ok, ok, no actually he told me the story. Somebody saw us in San Francisco or maybe Oakland the night before as there were not so many people, during our US tour, last year. Yeah we played Oakland on Halloween night and 1st November we played San Francisco. There is this guy called Mel, who is a friend of Dave, and Mel basically told Dave, ‘hey you should listen to this band and invite them to Sacrosanct, they are fucking cool’ and that’s how it started

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): Had you heard of the Sacrosanct Festival before receiving your invitation?

Horror Vacui (Koppa): I actually did, but just last year. I can’t remember which band caught my attention playing at Sacrosanct 2014, but I’d heard of it before through Facebook, stuff like that.

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): In our opinion you have a really wonderful, raw punk edge to your music. Is there a band that you all like from the punk era?

Horror Vacui (Koppa): Well, we all play in (other) Punk bands. Before we started Horror Vacui we were playing in punk bands and now we are still playing in Punk bands, besides

Horror Vacui:  Personally, I think the most important punk band besides the Ramones, Sex Pistols is Discharge, which is the band that has most influenced us, I mean me, with the bands that I had and I still have besides Horror Vacui.

Horror Vacui (Masbucci): Wretched as well, from Italy they were a punk/hardcore band from the 80’s

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): Who else are you personally looking forward to seeing at Sacrosanct 2015?

Horror Vacui (Koppa): I am looking forward most to seeing Yabanci, the band who are a friend of ours from Italy, although living in Switzerland, but I think the other people are from Italy. Yeah.

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): Ahh you know Valario?

Horror Vacui (Koppa): Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

Horror Vacui (Marziona): Err there’s a couple of friends coming, like Leonora she’s another girl from Italy, and she’s playing tonight or tomorrow

Horror Vacui (Masbucci): Tonight, Grooving in Green

Horror Vacui (Marziona): Grooving in Green. Yeah

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): Ah Leonora Rossi

Horror Vacui (Marziona): here is an Italian invasion tonight! Sorry about that!

Raven and The Gothicfox (Mike):  Ah that’s a question for one of the other Italian bands!

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy):Ok we will have a 6th Question! But before that, what does 2016 have in store for Horror Vacui, can we expect a new release?

Horror Vacui (Koppa): Ahhhh too early! We already have like 3 songs that we probably, (well) one of them we are gonna play tonight. A new song. But like I say we have 3 songs and after all of these shows that we have until the end of October, then we will start like playing something new, rehearse something new and probably not 2016, but 2017 definitely it will be

Raven and The Gothicfox (Mike): There are actually 3 bands playing here from Italy aren’t there? Do you all know of each other?

Horror Vacui (all of the band): Yeah pretty much. Well we know Leonora, we know Valerio

Raven and The Gothicfox (Mike): : We also have Stompcrash, and Winter Severity Index do you know these guys?

Horror Vacui (Marziona): Well it’s gonna be a new thing for us as well, because we usually play in the punk scene, with punk bands so we are not so, I mean I’m personally not so much updated with what is going on in the Gothic/post punk Scene

Horror Vacui (all of the band): And we don’t have so much connection with it, so we don’t have so many connections with err, the gothic scene, we are mostly into the punk scene. So it is something new for us.

Raven and The Gothicfox (Mike): So are you really quite surprised that you have been taken into the Goth Scene then?

Horror Vacui (Marziona): Yeah we are definitely. We are used to just playing in squats, rarely playing in clubs or with you know, any very good Goth band. So it’s gonna be an interesting night!

Raven and The Gothicfox (Andy): We’ve heard many many many bands since being into the Goth Scene, and although we like some of the punk bands, what we like about your style is that you do get the appeal between the punk and goth scene. You do seem to be able to mesh the two elements together, with the deeper vocals, the under lying aggression, you are the band we are most looking forward to seeing tonight, so this interview is a real honour! I will be pogoing around at the front like a bloody nutter (and he was!) Thank you very much for the interview

Horror Vacui (The band): (Lots of laughter) Thank you too!
