Evi Vine, this stunningly beautiful singer who has graced us with her appearance on songs by one of our favourite bands ‘The Eden House’ in the past, has released her second album ‘Give your heart to the Hawks’ on Solemn Wave Records’ label, back on 17th February 2015.
The opening track is one of Evi’s latest, double A side singles ‘Porcelain’ that showcases her beautifully haunting vocals, this matched with the added special effects make this a fabulous opener.
The album progresses with a certain style that is very reminiscent of The Cocteau Twins with a bit of the amazing ‘Portishead’ thrown in for good measure. Evi’s fragile and evocative vocals, bursts of psychedelia and electro beats carry the listener off into an almost transcendental state. She is joined by a talented group of musicians which include Peter Yates ex of Fields of the Nephilim as well as Ringo Starr‘s bass playing granddaughter, Tatia Starkey.
Stand out track in our opinion is the other part of the Double A side ‘My hands are tied’ (which you can see and listen to hear on this YouTube link). The vocals are so sublime and the exquisite sound of the cello just makes this track nigh on perfect.
Final track ‘I’m not here’ is a highly emotional ending to the album, with its part whispered spoken word vocals and sparse instrumentation
The whole album just feels as if Evi’s heart is telling you stories that have shaped who she has become on her musical journey. We are more than happy to follow this songbird wherever that journey takes us. ► by Raven and The Gothicfox
